In 2000 we were contracted to develop a Master plan for the new Cascadia elementary and middle school located on a 2.3 acre site directly adjacent to a City “nature area” and in an established residential neighborhood.
The initial phase of the master plan was executed and the construction of the 8200 SF building and adjacent covered play area was completed. Along with associated site work, building design included 5 classrooms with storage and studio rooms. Ample natural light inside the classroom areas and access from each classroom to the exterior was an important design consideration. The high volume and windows provide a focal point for the main entry. Building design through use of forms and materials reflect some of the residential characteristics of the neighborhood. Phase one building design accommodates future expansion plans for the phase two development.
Phase two schematic design services were provided as the final phase of the master plan design and included after school care areas, an additional middle school class room, and science and technology center.
